In Summer Light, painterly brushstrokes applied with vitality, intercepted with calligraphic black streaks radiate across the canvas. Suzlee's iconic compositions are made of lyrical abstract forms and vibrant colour, to express his personal observations of terrains, landscapes, vegetations and weather. In his drive to replicate the visions of the natural landscape and emotions, Suzlee has devised techniques to incorporate the shapes and arrangement of space, while incorporating intuitive brushwork. Suzlee Ibrahim graduated from the Mara Institute of Technology in 1987 but started lecturing in his alma-mater from 1993 to 2009 (part-time 1993-1996), after a stint in advertising. He is now lecturing at the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (Aswara). He has taken part in exhibitions in more than 20 countries including solos in Denmark (Remise Academy, Brande) and Macedonia (Kicevo art colony). In 2010, he took part in the Tunisia Art Festival Workshop in Monastir. He had a mini survey show called, Suzlee Ibrahim: 30 Years Journey in 2016. His awards include: Tokoh Seni Anugerah Citra Kencana UKM in 2011; the Japan-Malaysia Art Friendship Ambassador (2007) and the Emaar Art Symposium Outstanding Creative Excellence Award, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (2005). Sotheby's Hong Kong April 2018 auction sale saw his work sold for HKD 237,500. Suzlee was awarded the Gold Medal of Zervas Art, The 5th Paris Art Symposium, Paris, France in 2020, and the Modern Masters Art Award, ArtFort India, Chandigarh, India in 2021.
