The detailed surrealistic compositions of Syahbandi Samat are drawn from his personal observations and experiences. A shirtless youth is portrayed in a quiet living area by a small couch, bathed in 50-ringgit notes. Filled with suspense in the air, the youth is seen reclining against the sofa with his arms stretched out. His eye lids are closed, weighed down by the dollar bills. Syahbandi is known for his intricate and mysterious artworks created through the medium of ballpoint pen. His solo exhibition, The Road Less Travelled was held at Harta Gallery in collaboration with Artemis Art in 2023. Syahbandi was one of the five winners in the 2011 Malaysia Emerging Artist Award (MEAA). He was a recipient of the Young Guns Award 2016, by Hom Art Trans, Kuala Lumpur. He has participated in many group exhibitions including Art Fair Philippines 2024, Art Fair Asia Fukuoka 2023, Art Taichung 2023, and Volta Basel 2023 with Artemis Art.
