With the fusion of bold sticker symbols, dynamic interplay of texts, and overlapping figures, the artist unravels his travel observations onto the pictorial space. A journey to Hong Kong inspired Khairudin to revitalize his impressions of the various logos and symbols reflecting underground subculture, graffiti art, wireless networks, people, and food (through mandarin words derived from menus). In this work, art and design merge into one another, as it reflects on the process of learning foreign cultures through text and graphic visuals from the surrounding neighbourhood. It also presents a delicate portrayal of figures accompanied by local stickers encountered during his stay. Tranquillity In The Big City is a thoughtful contemplation of urban life materialised on canvas, tracing the rhythms and interactions within the environment.
