Marista series is a journey of self-searching for an active, constructive, and progressive aspect of a culture. It is a continuation from the first famous E.O.C. series. This series recalls the artist experience in past full of twist and turns. The theme is still personal to the artist as it was a time of struggle and challenges. In Ingatan Yang Tersisa II Awang uses dark grey hues and a strike of orange to depict his past experience. This is what was left of his childhood memories that remains poignant. Awang builds his composition in a controlled manner through the structuring of materials and techniques and not merely through erratic brush strokes. Awang Damit Ahmad took up Art at a late stage when he was 27, at the Mara Institute of Technology (later a university) and was its Best Student (1983). He retired at his alma mater as a diligent teacher with the title of Associate Professor, in May 2011. In 1991, a year after obtaining his Masters degree in Fine Art from the Catholic University in Washington DC, he won the Major Prize (and also Consolation Prize) in the hugely prestigious Salon Malaysia III competition, with his work, Nyanyian Petani Gunung (now in Petronas Collection). He taught at the Universiti ITM and retired as Associate Professor in May 2011. He was selected for the Contemporary Paintings of Malaysia at the Asia-Pacific Museum in Pasadena, Los Angeles, in 1988, and was among the touring entourage. He also won 2nd Prize in the Malaysian Bank Association art competition in 1988. In Henry Butcher March 2021 art auction, his Apa Khabar Ledang (from the same E.O.C. series) was sold for RM 224,000. In April 2021, his most recent solo Dari Payarama Ke Garismega: 2013-2020 was held at Galeri Prima, Balai Berita Bangsar, KL. It was organised by Henry Butcher Art Auctioneers and Galeri Prima; it received excellent response.
