Lot 002: Jalan Hang Lekir, Kuala Lumpur; Lebuh Muntri, Georgetown; Lorong Panggung, Kuala Lumpur; Kuala Selangor, Selangor by Chin Kon Yit | Henry Butcher Art Auctioneers
Chin Kon Yit is one of Malaysia's eminent watercolour artists, specialising in the subject of architecture. His talent in art and his determination won him a prominent position in a leading advertising agency, and he worked in this field for 15 years. In these scenes, he sought to capture the alleys where street vendors make a living. The architecture exudes a laid back charm, reflecting the unhurried pace of life in small towns. In 1991, he became a full-time artist.
Kon Yit's work has been shown in ten solo exhibitions in Kuala Lumpur, and numerous joint exhibitions both locally and internationally. His paintings are widely collected by private and corporate collectors. His book titled Landmarks Of Malaysia: 360 Paintings by Chin Kon Yit, is an impressive collection of 360 landmarks from every state in the country. He has created several books documenting the architecture of Malaysia. In 1998, he made the Kuala Lumpur Sketchbook, followed by Penang Sketchbook (2001), Landmarks Of Selangor (2003) and Landmarks Of Perak (2006).
