Pangkor Laut is one of the most beautiful islands in Malaysia. Composed of intricate brushstrokes in varying shades and colour, the impressions of the crystal-clear emerald waters and nature are deftly captured. The artist highlights the forefront of the composition with expressive intertwining branches, and dappled light radiating through the trees and sand, creating a serene atmosphere. The details of the work show the artist's impeccable skill. "In this painting of Emerald Bay in Pangkor Laut Island, I wanted to convey the contrasting feelings of this particular moment. I could feel the scorching heat of the midday sun but also the coolness of the shade. I tried to capture the feeling and details of the moment - the glittering lights from between the leaves, the dancing shadows on the ground, and in the back, the blinding light of day." as quoted from the artist. With a deep interest in art, Zainal Abidin Musa enrolled at Institut Teknologi Mara to pursue a degree in Fine Art. He graduated in 1983 with a promising career as an artist, having won an award from the Malaysian Young Contemporary Artist competition. Formerly working in advertising, he has now returned to his first love: painting, once again taking up the brush, with no signs of slowing down or stopping. He has been active since the 2000s, with entries in various group exhibitions, as well as having solo exhibitions in Kuala Lumpur.
