Jalaini Abu Hassan launched his large and bold drawings-like works with silhouette outlines and wash-and-stain effect, often with orange and yellow hues, in his Life form solo in 1996. They juxtapose natural plants like petai, brinjal and monkey cups with man-made utilitarian household objects such as bowls, cups, congkak (a mancala game), old kettles (kendi) and fish traps, striking similarities in the shapes and forms.
