The silkscreen aesthetic effortlessly transforms the mangosteen into an iconic symbol by utilising shifts in light and colour. The interplay of shadow and texture accentuates the organic contours of the mangosteen, as this seemingly everyday subject evokes recollections of past experiences and a once familiar space. Dr Jamil Mat Isa studied printmaking at the Mara Institute of Technology (ITM) and Birmingham Institute of Art before pursuing his PhD in Art and Design at Universiti Teknologi Mara Shah Alam. His works have been widely exhibited locally, including two solo exhibitions in Kuala Lumpur and Penang and internationally. He publishes articles in numerous art exhibitions and specialises in serigraphy techniques.
