In this work, Datuk Sim Mow Yu’s calligraphy was derived from a pair of Chinese poetry written by Mencius, an ancient Chinese philosopher from the Zou dynasty. The poem 养天地正气,法古今完人 encourages one to develop a righteous and honourable spirit, and to emulate the virtuous character of saints to perfect one’s conduct. His motto in life include perseverance, manners, righteousness, integrity, faithfulness, justice and hard work, and is reflected in his style of writing which is bold and magnificent. Datuk Sim Mow Yu devoted his life to the field of education, and he was also a publisher, and talented calligrapher. In 1997, Datuk Sim Mow Yu received the Nation Cultural Award of R.O.C (Taiwan). He was bestowed “Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka (DMSM)” by the heads of state of Melaka in 1999.
